mutya20141 If Bb. Pilipinas 2014 has done it before, Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 certainly can as well. No copycat remarks for now, please. Posing in six groups of 5, the thirty Official Candidates showed their sexiness through the lens of photographer Lito Sy. With their individual charm captured while wearing red two-piece swimwears, these beauties know how to turn on the heat while trying to outshine each other.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidates have their schedules filled with so many activities, including sponsor visits to companies and food establishments alike. Just like the other day when they trooped to Century City Mall in Makati City and dropped by Kimukatsu for a tummy-filling Japanese meal.

I originally wanted to post some of the wacky facial shots that they gamely did for Photographer Edmund Chua (who takes the credit for all the images in this post), but I thought it would be best not to include them anymore so as not to break the poise levels they projected during the same. However, if you want to see all of the photos, click HERE.

Watch out for more future posts about the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 beauties! ;-)

IMG_107751002686220 When Eva Psychee Patalinjug of Cebu City in the ongoing Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 was named Best in Swimwear during the pre-pageant competition at Sheridan Resort & Spa in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, many people sit up and take notice of this lovely lass who has been lounging in the shadows of the early favorites long enough. Here is a candidate who just might be zooming up at just the right time. And if she continues to play her cards right, the probability of nosing out the top picks is becoming more and more likely. And to think that she initially had reservations about joining. I was told that she wanted to go for Miss World Philippines 2014 instead.

Let’s see if the decision to stick it out with Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 will pay off big-time. ;-)

My Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 Forecast

image
mutya20141 This has got to be one of the more impressive batches of Mutya ng Pilipinas in recent memory. As the saying goes, there are no slim pickings here. At least half of them will be practically wasted if only one crown will be contested come Friday night. But then again, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the organizers will make a surprise announcement for a new pageant franchise so that two ladies will at least represent the country abroad. As far as the Mutya-Overseas Communities title is concerned, I have never really looked at it as hotly-contested since only less than 1/4 of the candidates can vie for the same.

So with all preliminaries/pre-judging now over, let me present to you first my Top 10 Prediction.

There is no doubt in my mind that roommates Mutya ng Milan Patrizia Bosco and Mutya ng Cordilleras Glennifer Perido are the ladies to beat. They are this year’s “the-crown-is-theirs-to-lose” category fillers. And only if they allow the 28 others to upend their bids will the final results reveal any other names inside the envelope. I know that the next four picks in my forecast are strong enough to cause an upset, but let’s see how the two leading favorites will translate their popularity to formal victory.

image

My Fearless Top 10 Forecast

Now, trimming down the ten ladies above to just five is not extraordinarily hard to accomplish. The only thing that gave me some sense of difficulty is who to give the 5th slot to. I was teetering between Mutya ng Tagbilaran City Dorina Losenada Doerr and Mutya ng Olongapo City Cristine Racel. It is my belief, though, that the former has made bigger strides of late and has gradually outlasted the former, albeit marginally. Mutya ng Iloilo City Froilene Villanueva and Mutya ng Cebu City Eva Psychee Patalinjug are safely tucked in 3rd and 4th so far, imo.

Note: By now, I have decided to give up on Jackielyn Dulay making the final cut since she was already given the Mutya Tourism-Nueva Ecija special crown earlier. But if the judges and organizers decide to favor her even more, then chances are my selections below will be altered to accommodate her inclusion. I’m just not sure who will be sacrificed.

image

Patrizia is my pick to win, but methinks Glennifer or Froilene will give her a hard time and might possibly get past the Fil-Italian if the final Q&A is the ultimate test. Heck, even Eva and Dorina are possible scene-stealers at this point.

With only a quintet left in my scoresheet, I would give the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 to either Patrizia Bosco or Glennifer Perido in a heartbeat. I feel that any of the two can make a wonderful job of representing us in Miss Tourism International come New Year’s Eve. But hey, if one can be sent to another competition abroad (like, for example, the likes of Miss Italia nel Mondo or Top Model of the World), then things would fall in the right places.

But beware, I am not closing my doors on Froilene Villanueva just yet. She could be the strongest spoiler. If she officially makes the magic circle of 5, then expect a shuffling in placement the minute she gives out an impressive reply in the Q&A.

image

Not only are Froilene (24), Patrizia (25) and Glennifer (26) numbered consecutively. They also happen to be my Top 3 for Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 (Photo credit: Melvin Sia for OPMB Worldwide)

All I can say in closing now is…”Good luck, ladies! :-D

mutya20141 At the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort & Casino, the winners of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 were proclaimed in a glittering night of beauty and pageantry. From among the thirty (30) Official Candidates vying for the crown, Eva Psychee Patalinjug of Cebu City was adjudged Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014, while Glennifer Perido of the Cordilleras was named Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2014. The 3rd titleholder is Patrizia Bosco of Milan who was elected Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities 2014. Cristine Racel of Olongapo City got 1st Runner-up, with Kim Fyfe of Australia completing the winning circle as 2nd Runner-up.

Glennifer will now go for a back-to-back-to-back victory in Miss Tourism International 2014, while Eva – the night’s most awarded candidate – still has an unconfirmed pageant assignment. Patrizia may or may not be fielded by the organizers so it hopefully depends on negotiations with new franchises they may plan to acquire.

The five remaining ladies who reached the Top 10 are Dorina Losenada Doerr of Tagbilaran, Christina De Vries of Toronto, Alexandra Faith Garcia of Zambales, Pauline Edralin of Melbourne and Jackielyn Dulay of Nueva Ecija.

Mutya ng Pilipinas President Jacqueline C. Tan (middle) shouldn't put Eva (left) to waste and send her to a pageant abroad just like Koreen Medina. (Photo credit: OPMB Worldwide)

If you have been following Mutya ng Pilipinas year after year, the organizers have been trying to revive Miss Asia-Pacific International for the longest time. But to no avail. It seems that there is no use giving us hope that it will make a comeback. And for Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 Eva Psychee Patalinjug, she shouldn’t be made to wait for something that won’t materialize. The girl is too beautiful and competitive to be put to waste.

It’s a pity the pageant has lost its Miss Intercontinental franchise to Bb. Pilipinas. But there will always be available international pageants to transact with. In fact, there are way too many of them that singling out the more reputable ones can be tough.

Paging Mutya ng Pilipinas President Jacqueline C. Tan. With all due respect, you need to look at the available options asap. For starters, there is still time for Turkey-based Miss Exclusive of the World to consider. If not, the group can maybe exercise its option to send her to Top Model of the World 2015. That should give Eva lots of time to prepare.

Whichever way it goes, one thing is very clear. This Mutya must represent Pilipinas. ;-)

Just the other night, Kagandahang Flores organized a small get-together to celebrate the camp’s recent pageant victory with the crowning of Eva Psychee Patalinjug as Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 last week.

Rodgil Flores was around to welcome guests, as well as to proudly show his happiness in having scored another win in the national level. To give their congratulations to Eva, fellow Cebuanas Bb. Pilipinas-Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tiffany Janson and Miss Philippines Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell showed up, in addition to Miss Philippines Air 2014 Diane Querrer and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism 2014 Monique Manuel.

I’m sure KF is pumped even more to field their strong entries to Miss World Philippines 2014, hoping to achieve a rare Grand Slam for 2014. ;-)

All systems go for 2015?

Last Monday night, I spent some quality moments with Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 Eva Psychee Patalinjug. We were both billeted as judges during the Miss Panglao 2014 Beauty Pageant at the Alona Tropical Beach Hotel. We shared a table during dinner and seated side by side inside the van that brought us to the Panglao Town Plaza.

She intimated to me that Miss Asia Pacific International will definitely happen in early 2015. The contest is now under new management (still Filipino-owned) but continues to be in good affiliation with Mutya ng Pilipinas. At the moment, the competition is tentatively set to be hosted here in Manila, with around sixty (60) delegates being expected to initially participate in the comeback.

And Eva couldn’t hide her excitement that it will all happen during her reign. Should there be delays somewhere and an overlap between her and the next Mutya happens, she will still be the Philippine representative regardless.

This sweet and beautiful Cebuana has all reasons to be confident, and all the right ingredients to do us proud in the international pageant stage. :-D

Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International Eva Patalinjug will have to wait longer

image

Patience, Eva, Patience

Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2014 Eva Psychee Patalinjug is in a state of uncertainty at the moment. And I can fully understand why.

First of all, she was already given a send-off alongside Mutya Tourism International Glennifer Perido last December. The 22nd Top Model of the World should have taken place in Qingdao, China from January 8-29, 2015. But it’s already halfway through February and nothing has progressed so far.

I chatted with Eva and she told me that the contest has now changed host cities from Qingdao to El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt. She also told me that the contest is supposed to happen next month. But after I checked with the organizers, their official announcement is that the finals will be on September 4 instead.

Qingdao should have hosted Top Model of the World last month. Now it's going to be back to Egypt and not until September at that.

Qingdao should have hosted Top Model of the World last month. Now it’s going to be back to El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt and not until September at that.

The curious thing is that Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015 will take place at around the same time that Top Model of the World will happen abroad. And instead of being able to crown her successor, Eva won’t likely be around to perform the duty.

Let me add another layer. Top Model of the World is the same modelling competition where Janicel Lubina was supposed to participate in before, but was denied a tourist visa due to “security concerns” about going to Egypt. Remember that?

The worries are stacking up. It’s like the Mutya Asia-Pacific International crown is jinxed in a way. And it saddens me somehow that this sweet and pretty Cebuana is on the receiving end of all the challenging spells.

And really now, whatever happened to the promise of Miss Asia-Pacific International 2015 happening? Tsk tsk tsk.

More patience, dear Eva. Stretch it till you can still hold on with a firm grip. :-/

Eva Psychee Patalinjug: Soon, she will shine through

Back in 2014, Eva Psychee Patalinjug was a beautiful Cebuana scouted to join that year’s Mutya ng Pilipinas search. She was just 20 years old and head-over-heels in love with her former boyfriend. And then she won the top crown at stake. Unfortunately, the organizers were not yet ready to stage the comeback edition of Miss Asia Pacific International (not until last year) and she waited for her replacement pageant mission to compete in. So many things happened in between and she really was not able to fly overseas to represent the Philippines.

Almost two years passed and she was supposed to be the country’s bet in Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2016. Once more, personal reasons prevented her from wearing the Philippine sash abroad (Ashley Nicole Singh went instead).

Eva promoting her Psychee lashes

This time around, the 23-going-on-24 lass is definitely committed to join Bb. Pilipinas 2018. For starters, she has promised to skip on entering any relationship that could curtail her preparations. She is seriously training at the KF camp the last time we spoke (that was just two weeks ago) and once all things fall into place, you will see her screening for the next edition of the nationals.

Watch out for Eva. She will shine through. Soon!

Here are KF Cebu’s bets for Bb. Pilipinas 2018:

Eva Patalinjug – the former Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholder who is now dead-set on nailing another national crown that will allow her to compete abroad;

Doc Ena Louis Velasco – the Doctor of Medicine who plans to use the national platform in furthering her causes for health and wellness.

When Bb. Pilipinas 2018 aspirant Eva Psychee Patalinjug presented herself to selected members of the Press during a Meet-and-Greet yesterday, everyone definitely felt the renewed enthusiasm and excitement in the former Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholder in facing the challenge of joining the country’s premiere beauty pageant. It definitely took a long path to reach this point when she can confidently exude the 100% readiness to face up to the new challenge and hopefully become one of our Queens for 2018.

I have always kept myself in contact with Eva all these years. There were highs and some lows in between, and she kept shining through. Now, the time has come for her to proudly step up to the plate and make Cebu extra appreciative of her efforts. She has evolved. And how.

Watch out for this #KF2018 bet in the weeks to come. She is out to conquer!

40 to 25, 25 to 15, 15 to 6+2: normannorman.com’s Final Predictions for Bb. Pilipinas 2018

$
0
0

The first cut is the deepest, or so the title of the song written by Cat Stevens goes. And in a national beauty pageant like Bb. Pilipinas where the level of contention among the candidates is as sharp as the cutting edge of a high-carbon steel Japanese-style chef’s knife, there is a big difference between being summoned to centerstage for the first elimination during the Grand Coronation Night. It is at this point where the ladies with official placements are separated from those relegated to just stay in the background for the remaining hours of the competition.

In this year’s edition of Bb. Pilipinas, your blogger followed the format used last year where the Top 25 signalled the start of the filtration process. It also gives a relatively wider breathing space in that more deserving candidates are recognized for their hard-earned efforts in standing out and being counted as among the stronger ones.

Here are the twenty-five beauties in my first cut, according to their respective pin numbers:

#Binibini1 Vickie Marie Rushton
#Binibini3 Muriel Adrienne Orais
#Binibini4 Ana Patricia Asturias
#Binibini7 Sigrid Grace Flores
#Binibini9 Agatha Romero
#Binibini10 Kayesha Clauden Chua
#Binibini11 Ma. Andrea “Aya” Abesamis
#Binibini14 Samantha Mae Bernardo
#Binibini15 Juliana Kapeundl
#Binibini17 Ma. Ahtisa Manalo
#Binibini19 Michele Therese Gumabao
#Binibini20 Catriona Elisa Gray
#Binibini21 Anjame Santos Magbitang
#Binibini23 Ena Louis Velasco
#Binibini24 Edjelyn Joy Gamboa
#Binibini26 Wynonah Van Joy Buot
#Binibini29 Samantha Avestruz
#Binibini30 Sarah Margarette Joson
#Binibini31 Jehza Mae Huelar
#Binibini32 Eva Psychee Patalinjug
#Binibini33 Stephanie Joy Abellanida
#Binibini35 Sandra Lemonon
#Binibini36 Loren Mar Artajos
#Binibini37 Patrizia Mariah L. Garcia
#Binibini38 Karen J. Gallman

Believe it or not, it breaks my heart to have no spot/s left for any of the remaining fifteen. But in the true spirit of pageant analysis, it needs to be done so we can move forward and zero in further on the more deserving fighters. This despite the fact that the afterglow of making it to Top 25 is relatively short-lived as the next cut to 15 beckons shortly after the swimsuit and/or evening gown competition.

Now if a People’s Choice Award winner is automatically selected as part of the Top 15, then I would go out on a limb by stating that #Binibini20 Catriona Gray is very likely to get the honor of being guaranteed a spot. Her fan base is undeniably strong, just like the time of MJ Lastimosa where crowd cheers/popularity is only part and parcel of the support. Text and online votes provide just as much proof of the same.

So that leaves us with getting fourteen more Binibinis to join her in the next mix. Hence, my Top 15 reads as follows:

#Binibini1 Vickie Marie Rushton
#Binibini3 Muriel Adrienne Orais
#Binibini7 Sigrid Grace Flores
#Binibini11 Ma. Andrea “Aya” Abesamis
#Binibini14 Samantha Mae Bernardo
#Binibini19 Michele Theresa Gumabao
#Binibini20 Catriona Gray
#Binibini21 Anjame Santos Magbitang
#Binibini23 Ena Louis Velasco
#Binibini26 Wynonah Van Joy Buot
#Binibini31 Jehza Mae Huelar
#Binibini32 Eva Psychee Patalinjug
#Binibini35 Sandra Lemonon
#Binibini37 Patrizia Mariah L. Garcia
#Binibini38 Karen J. Gallman

Now this is the part where nerves of steel and grace under pressure will score high on the score sheets of the judges. A lot of the still-standing Binibinis in my Top 15 are expected to deliver at this point. Based on previous performances in another national pageant alone, #Binibini20 Catriona Gray (Miss World Philippines 2016) has already proven herself well-equipped the minute she starts holding the microphone and dishing out an answer to the question that will be asked of her.

During last Sunday night’s “The Road to the Crown” TV Special on ABS-CBN as well, there were those who showed how good they are in expressing themselves more spontaneously during the speaking test where they were tasked to enter a room and pick a photo or item that represents their aspirations and motivations.

But the Final Q&A could be an entirely different playing field. I reckon that there will have already been installed favorites at this juncture. And if my combination of gut-feel and observations is to be relied upon, the following eight could be headed for victorious punctuations to their Bb. Pilipinas dreams, provided that they don’t falter big-time during this part:

#Binibini3 Muriel Adrienne Orais
#Binibini11 Ma. Andrea “Aya” Abesamis
#Binibini19 Michele Theresa Gumabao
#Binibini20 Catriona Elisa Gray
#Binibini31 Jehza Huelar
#Binibini32 Eva Psychee Patalinjug
#Binibini37 Patrizia Mariah Garcia
#Binibini38 Karen J. Gallman

Two of them are looking to be Runners-Up – Eva Psychee Patalinjug and Patrizia Mariah Garcia. These two can definitely rejoin and still be groomed for better things to come in a year or two. Being part of the winners’ circle will allow them to train with the titleholders for many months to come.

As for my predicted Queens, this is how I see the distribution of the titles:

Globe – #Binibini3 Muriel Adrienne Orais
Intercontinental – #Binibini38 Karen J. Gallman
Grand International – #Binibini31 Jehza Huelar
Supranational – #Binibini11 Ma. Andrea “Aya” Abesamis
International – #Binibini19 Michele Theresa Gumabao
Universe – #Binibini20 Catriona Elisa Gray

Predicting the winners of Bb. Pilipinas is a tricky proposition, unless I have the power to read into the future. Final deliberations can be ultimately trickier, though. But I sincerely hope that the rightful winners be assigned to the crowns where they can be maximized to the fullest, en route to a glorious collective participation in their respective missions abroad.

Extra good luck to all of you, Binibinis!

There is intriguing talk on social media about the answer given by your newly-crowned Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2018 Eva Psychee Patalinjug as a “copy” of actress Nadine Lustre’s post June 12 of last year during the Philippine Independence Day for Mega Magazine. All I can say is that the Cebuana took inspiration from the message, and instead of giving it her own spin (that could alter the entire thought depending on the words used), she recited choice parts that sounded “memorized” to everyone.

As someone conducting pageant workshops on Q&A, I never encourage memorization. But I don’t restrict it completely as well depending on the capacity of a trainee to think more spontaneously. In Eva’s case, she could have simply quoted it. After all, Nadine Lustre is a popular name and figure in the Entertainment Industry. If Wynonah Buot can specify host/actress Toni Gonzaga as a source of admiration, then I won’t find fault in the former using Nadine as inspiration for her answer.

But that controversy will die down in a matter of days, and Eva will continue with her reign. I reckon that Miss Grand International owner Nawat Itsaragrisil has already given his thumbs up to her selection (photo below) as the Philippine rep to his pageant.

Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2018 Eva Psychee Patalinjug appears to be the first among the 2018 Queens to wage a beauty battle abroad. Miss Grand International 2018 will be held (for the first time) in the Golden Land of the World – Myanmar – on October 25.

Eva hopes to do two notches better than her predecessor Elizabeth Clenci who placed 2nd Runner-Up in Vietnam, just as she is zeroing on a better output than Nicole Cordoves who was adjudged 1st Runner-Up during the 2016 edition held in Las Vegas.

Below is a video clip of the hosting of MGI2018 in Myanmar.

When Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2018 Eva Psychee Patalinjug gets her proper sendoff by late September, she will set herself up to embrace the culture and heritage of the Golden Land of Myanmar where Miss Grand International 2018 will be held at The One Entertainment Park in Yangon on October 25.

The One Entertainment Park is a huge events venue in the capital of Myanmar where big concerts and festivals are usually conducted. And this is where more than eighty (80) delegates from all over the world will converge to select the successor of Maria Jose Lora of Peru.

Eva is more than ready to face the challenge of winning the country’s very first Miss Grand International crown and she is making sure that all bases are covered for her mission. It certainly won’t be a walk in the park. But if she sticks to her training and preparations for the international competition, she will come home a glorious victor by the time she returns to the Philippines after the finals.

By the way, Cary Santiago will do her National Costume, with Philipp Tampus providing the Evening Gown.
